Setup guides

Set up NixaTV on any device

10 platforms, most of them running in under five minutes. Each guide includes the exact steps and the playback settings that prevent buffering on older hardware — the part most setup guides leave out.

Short answer

Which device is best for IPTV?

For most households a Fire TV Stick 4K Max is the best value, because it has enough RAM for buffering headroom and runs a native app. An NVIDIA Shield is the best performer if you watch a lot of live sports, thanks to its upscaler. Apple TV 4K is the best fit inside an Apple household. Roku is the weakest choice for IPTV specifically, because it does not permit sideloaded channels, so every provider must reach it through screen mirroring.

Hardware advice

If you are buying a device for this

Spend the extra $20 on a current-generation stick rather than a discounted older one. The difference is RAM, and RAM is what gives the player somewhere to buffer when your network dips — which is the actual cause of most stuttering people blame on their provider.

Wire the main television if you possibly can. A $10 Ethernet cable beats a $200 router upgrade for a device that never moves, because live TV is more sensitive to jitter than to raw bandwidth.

If Roku is your only device, a Fire TV Stick is the single highest-value purchase available to you. Screen mirroring works, but a native app on the television itself is a noticeably better experience.
